Why remote behaviour
consultations work so well

Calm dog, clear information, better decisions — without the pressure of a stranger in your dog's space.

Find out how it works

Remote behaviour consultations allow us to gather detailed history, observe your dog in a relaxed home environment, collaborate with your vet and local trainer, and build a plan that's safe, realistic and evidence-based.

Remote support is particularly powerful for dogs who find visitors stressful, for complex multi-factor cases, and whenever we need close collaboration between behaviourist, vet, physiotherapist and trainer.
Section 01

When remote is the best first step

For many behaviour cases — particularly those involving fear, anxiety, or pain — a remote consultation isn't a compromise. It's actually the most clinically appropriate place to begin. Here's when we'd typically recommend starting remotely.

Fear, anxiety & reactivity

Especially towards strangers, visitors or in the home — where adding a new person creates extra stress and less accurate information.

Aggression or bite history

Where safety, careful assessment and clear management plans are essential before any in-person work begins.

Separation-related issues

Where we need to watch your dog settle and review video footage from your own environment — impossible with a visitor present.

Pain or suspected pain

Cases involving mobility changes, GI issues, or orthopaedic concerns that need vet and physio input alongside behaviour support.

Resource guarding

Food, toys, spaces or people — where reducing pressure and avoiding rehearsals during assessment is critical to safety and accuracy.

Multi-dog or household stress

Where we need to see daily routines, layout and interactions over time — the full picture, not a snapshot during a visit.

Handling, grooming & vet fear

We can review video and design gradual, consent-based plans — without adding any additional handling pressure during assessment.

Puppies & adolescents

Where you need early direction, realistic plans and ongoing support — not just a one-off visit, but a relationship as your dog develops.

Section 02

How a remote consultation actually works

The process is structured, thorough and designed to give us — and you — everything needed to build an accurate, effective behaviour plan.

01

Comprehensive history & video review

You share detailed questionnaires, video footage and vet information so we can see the full picture — the triggers, the patterns, the context — before we even meet.

02

Live video session

We talk through what's happening, explain the behaviour science in plain language, and agree clear priorities for you and your dog. Your dog stays relaxed in their own space throughout.

03

Written plan & resources

You receive structured guidance, training steps and management strategies in writing — so you can revisit them at any time and share them with your wider care team.

04

Collaboration with your team

With your consent, we liaise with your vet, physio and local trainer so everyone is working from the same map — the same clinical picture, the same goals.

Your local trainer +
our behaviour team

Remote work doesn't replace good hands-on training — it strengthens it.

Our role is to provide the clinical reasoning, behaviour plan and welfare-first strategy so that you and your trainer are working from accurate, up-to-date information. This is a collaborative model, not a replacement for the people already in your dog's life.

  • We can work with your existing trainer or connect you with someone from the Snout & About network
  • Your trainer implements the plan on the ground, while our behaviour team oversees the bigger picture
  • This keeps your dog's training ethically sound, evidence-based and supervised by certified behaviour professionals

The question we hear most

"Isn't it better if you see
my dog in person?"

In some very specific situations, an in-person visit is needed — and where that's the case, we'll tell you. But for the vast majority of behaviour cases, especially those involving fear, anxiety, aggression, or pain:

Adding a stranger into the home at the assessment stage creates extra stress and less accurate information — not more.

Remote consultations allow your dog to stay relaxed, allow us to see real-life behaviour through video and diaries, and give us time to think clinically, liaise with your vet, and design a plan that fits your life. Once that plan is in place, we can then support you and your trainer with tailored follow-up.

Remote consultations give you more brain, more collaboration, and less pressure on your dog. For many Irish households, they are the safest, most efficient and most welfare-friendly way to begin behaviour work.
